CAMP FREDDY Resume Work On Debut Album
February 2, 2005CAMP FREDDY, the Los Angeles-based "jam" band consisting of JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro, former THE CULT touring bassist Billy Morrison (on guitar),VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum, and vocalist Donovan Leitch (the son of 1960s U.K. folk-rock icon Donovan),have resumed work on their debut album, tentatively due later in the year via Sanctuary Records. The CD is being produced by Mike Clink (GUNS N' ROSES) and is rumored to be an album of covers, featuring guest singers, guitarists and even the odd guest drummer or two (including former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell, ex-THE CULT axeman Billy Duffy, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith and singer Macy Gray). An extension of the live show, the record will feature 12 songs, and the basic tracks were recorded last year. Work has resumed on the record and the band hope to have it completed by summer 2005. Listen to Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1FM (or log on to Indie1031.fm) every Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to catch exclusives; the band plan to have finished work on a track or two soon and will air them on their show when they are ready.
In other news, CAMP FREDDY's tsunami benefit show at The Key Club in Los Angeles last week was a great success. The club was completely sold out, and CAMP FREDDY played 16 songs with a huge variety of guests for well over an hour. Highlights included the dulcet tones of Lemmy (MOTÖRHEAD) singing the SEX PISTOLS classic "God Save The Queen", Courtney Love (HOLE) doing an amazing version of JANE'S ADDICTION's "The Mountain Song", and CAMP FREDDY's first foray into tribal music with Annabella Lwin from BOW WOW WOW, doing "I Want Candy". Guitarist Billy Morrison said: “We raised a lot of cash for the tsunami victims and had great fun doing it. You can’t ask for more than that."
